With a solid mahogany construction, the Gibson J-45 delivers rich sonic pleasures and sings sweet melodic sounds that a player of any style will love. Solid mahogany is used for the top, back, sides and neck of the J-45 and offers a dynamic and expressive tone that has plenty of grind and bite. This stunning solid mahogany build offers plenty of low-end focus, an earthy, woody tonality, and sonic warmth that is great for players that like to strum. In addition to its superb sound projection, the mahogany also acts as a striking visual and is finished in antique natural for a high-quality appearance and finish.
The J-45's neck is crafted from mahogany, offering plenty of resonance and durability. The mahogany neck adds complexity to the highs and adds appeal to the mids with a bit of punch. Many guitar necks are constructed from mahogany because the wood responds greatly to many different playing techniques and styles of play with equal ease. Its rich mahogany neck is topped with a rosewood fingerboard that provides players with a warm, bright, sizzling-sparkle that really shines through when using fingerpicking techniques. Rosewood, used as a fingerboard will provide a smooth and energetic playing experience and is finished by Gibson with a softened edge to comfortably fit the contour of the player's hand.
The J-45 Mahogany features a round shoulder dreadnought body shape, which provides players with plenty of projection and maintains overall tonal balance across the spectrum. The big body is better suited to players with a longer reach, and those more comfortable with the dreadnought size. The sheer volume the J-45 Mahogany can project makes it ideal for the singer/songwriter, as vocalists can really push their diaphragm to the max and not feel too loud against the guitar's volume, as it will sing as loud as you do. Its round shoulders not only offer an elegant aesthetic but provide the J-45 Mahogany with a mellow mid-range focus for players of all styles and techniques.
The Gibson J-45 Mahogany comes equipped with the VTC pickup from L.R. Baggs, offering a sleek and sophisticated design that sits unobtrusively just inside the soundhole. The L.R. Baggs VTC provides players with rotary controls for both volume and tone shaping. This effective design removes unnecessary internal components to enhance the coupling between the pickup and guitar, and improve the sensitivity of the transducer for a robust, lively, and natural acoustic sound with excellent dynamics and a delicate high end.
As with many of Gibson's acoustic range, the J-45 Mahogany features traditional hand scalloped X-bracing. This specific type of bracing structure consists of two braces forming an 'X' shape across the soundboard which not only enhances the sound and offers a well-balanced tone, but also provides a reinforced stable and durable structure.
