Key Features
It may look like it's from the '50s but this isn't your father's amp. The Supro Statesman is two separate preamps in a single box, namely the Comet and the Thunderbolt. This is a 50W powerhouse with some unique features that make it stand out. The two preamps can be used in parallel, which creates a massive sound with both preamps acting separately. This helps develop massive guitar textures. The amp can be used in your bedroom thanks to its multi-purpose FX loop, which lets you use the 'return' as a master volume control. But then you get the call to play Wembley - good job you can also drive up to four 2x12s as well!
It's like taking two amps with you in one box. The Thunderbolt side has the headroom - it's punchy and dynamic whilst the Comet side is woollier, a little more compressed, and it offers more gain. Add to that being able to switch between class A or A/B and the tonal range available is plentiful and glorious.

Yes, it sounds great with everything blaring and absolutely evokes a feeling of 'the prefect rock tone'. But this amp is so much more than a one-trick pony. Experimenting with how each channel works together brings out so many different voicings and tonal variations that you could happily spend hours tweaking away. But you could simply keep each dial at noon (which is the best amp test) and the Statesman will still sound amazing.
The FX loop only affects the blue channel which leads to some very unusual options. Because the send and return have their level, you can use this as a boost when dimed and the effects loop is engaged (which can be done with a footswitch). When both channels are engaged, kicking on the boost will add extra depth and drive that makes for some incredible lead tones or fat, saturated chord work.
This is also is amazing for hearing clean reverbs and delays over a heavily distorted guitar. As it is only the blue channel which is affected, you could run (with both channels engaged) the red channel hard and set the blue channel to a fairly clean sound with the effects running a full 'wet' signal. This allows you to hear the clear and defined repeats. Also, because your effects are dedicated to one channel it means you can also make use of the EQ. So if your guitar tone has too much bass then you don't have to let that clash with your reverb - simply dial some low end out.
One of the loudest amps Supro makes. This isn't one just for the studio, but one that will be in its element on a stage. With an all-valve makeup, 50 watts of power, and a plethora of tones, this amp has a huge arsenal for you to play with. It's subtle, but the switching between class A and class A/B accomplishes a lot. In class A you have a little more compression and 'sag', more gain, and just slightly less volume. This is the Supro tone that we all love, with its growling mid-range which is unlike any other amp on the market. The A/B mode, on the other hand, tightens everything up. It has more headroom and a much faster transient response which is perfect for huge clean tones and more percussive styles of playing.
Sound is, of course, the most important element of an amp. But to not mention how nice this looks would be criminal. In the grey Tolex and white stripe dividing the front from the back you recognise this as part of their '50s range but what is striking is the Comet style grill - it's a lovely design feature and rounds off this stunning, premium amp.
