Powerful P-style character
The P5 is built around the direct, substantial sound and familiar feel of a classic P-style bass. Its North American alder body provides great upper mids and an old-school quality that can slot naturally into both classic and contemporary music. That makes the P5 a straightforward choice when you need a solid bass foundation without unnecessary complexity. From supportive grooves and driving lines to more aggressive styles, its construction is designed to deliver the power and presence needed for both recording and live performance.
Marcus Vintage-Fat Precision pickup
A Marcus Vintage-Fat Precision Revolution pickup gives the P5 its amplified voice, providing the pure low-end response central to the P-style formula. Designed around Marcus Miller's preferences, the pickup supports both vintage and modern bass tones while retaining the strong fundamental character you'd expect. The electronics remain deliberately simple, with passive volume and tone controls providing immediate adjustment. It's an uncluttered setup that lets you shape the overall response quickly while preserving the direct character of the pickup and your playing.
Roasted maple neck and fingerboard
Sire pairs the P5's alder body with a roasted hard maple neck and matching roasted hard maple fingerboard, reinforcing its vintage-inspired sound, appearance, and feel. The neck uses a comfortable C shape with a wider profile designed to accommodate a range of playing styles. Sire's Edgeless treatment adds rolled fingerboard edges for a smoother feel beneath the fretting hand, while a 9.5" radius and 2.4mm medium frets provide a familiar playing surface. A 34" scale and 42mm bone nut complete a practical full-scale setup designed for confident four-string playing.
Traditional, dependable hardware
The P5 keeps its hardware specification purposeful and firmly in keeping with its classic inspiration. A Marcus Miller Vintage-S bridge provides 20mm string spacing, giving each string plenty of room for controlled fingerstyle playing, pick work, and other techniques. Premium open-gear tuning machines provide straightforward adjustment at the headstock, while the neck is secured using a four-bolt steel square plate. Chrome hardware and chrome metal control knobs add traditional detailing, complemented by a tortoise pickguard for a familiar finishing touch. Together, these appointments create a practical platform for regular rehearsing, recording, and performing.
