Direct string signal for clean, reliable output
DVINA takes its electric signal straight from the strings, rather than using an internal pickup. The strings vibrate in the strong magnetic field of a neodymium magnet hidden in the neck, creating a naturally low level signal.
Inside the body, a custom-made transformer amplifies that signal up to a standard output level, using an approach similar to a ribbon mic. This layout makes DVINA outstandingly resistant to electromagnetic interference, which is handy on noisy stages and in studios packed with gear. With its high output, you can connect directly to pedals, guitar amps, or an audio interface without needing extra conversion boxes.
Minimal controls, lots of room to explore
DVINA is a stripped-back instrument, built so that nothing is decorative. The design is intentionally minimalistic, and each part supports the overall function. You get a mono output, so it is easy to drop into any effects chain with mono or stereo inputs using a standard unbalanced TS cable.
Compressors, sustainers, reverbs, delays, distortions, overdrives, flangers, harmonisers, and more all work as part of the same simple routing. The fingerboard is marked with dots along an imaginary guitar fret line, but DVINA is sensitive, so small finger shifts can change intonation and become part of your expression.
String and tuning options that fit your style
DVINA ships with flatwound cello strings installed by default (1st 0.25, 2nd 0.30, measured by tension rather than gauge). You can experiment with different winding types and tensions, as long as you use metal strings with no nylon, synthetic, or dielectric materials.
Flatwounds tend to feel softer, while roundwounds lean towards a fuzzier, more rock’n’roll character. Allowed gauges for the standard two-string setup include 0.20 to 0.22 for the first string and 0.27 to 0.30 for the second. DVINA can be tuned between C#, D, D# and G#, A, A# depending on strings and setup.
Built for performance, with practical build choices
DVINA’s support includes strap locks, letting you fix the instrument to your body using a strap for stable performance positions. The neck and crossbar are made from solid ash, oak, or beech, then finished in varnishes that highlight the wood pattern rather than hiding it. The basic package includes the strap locks and an M6 screw for attaching the crossbar to the bar, with the bow sold separately.
