Authentic studio heritage

Jude brings the original Sound Techniques A-Range console preamp into a standalone format without changing the circuit that made it so distinctive. Developed alongside Sound Techniques, it follows the original schematics used in the first custom consoles installed at Trident Studios.

The complete signal path remains intact, including the dual-discrete 3035 Class-A amplifier and proprietary impedance matching design. This is the same foundation behind recordings from artists including The Beatles, David Bowie, Elton John, Queen and Paul McCartney, giving modern studios access to an original console design that has rarely been available outside authentic Sound Techniques hardware.

Shape every microphone

The nine-position Z-Match control is more than a simple impedance selector. Based directly on Geoff Frost's original eight-lead matching circuit, it changes the relationship between your microphone and the preamp to alter gain, response and overall character.

Three selectable impedance settings are supported through custom-wound CineMag input transformers, allowing dynamic, ribbon and condenser microphones to respond differently depending on your chosen setting. This flexibility helps you discover fresh sounds from microphones you already own while adapting the preamp to suit vocals, guitars, piano or drums with confidence.

Built to the original spec

Every aspect of Jude reflects the specifications provided by the Sound Techniques team. A carefully hand-wired PCB layout is populated with Nichicon audio-grade capacitors, Wima capacitors, carbon resistors and custom CineMag transformers on both the input and output stages.

These carefully selected components preserve the response and behaviour of the original console design while supporting impressively low noise and distortion figures. An aluminium faceplate, steel chassis and clear VU meter complete a robust design built for regular studio use while staying true to the construction methods behind the original consoles.

Alongside its vintage-inspired signal path, Jude includes practical features that suit contemporary recording environments. Up to 76dB of available gain provides ample headroom for demanding microphones, while 48V phantom power supports condenser models.

A polarity switch and line-level mode expand compatibility with a wide range of studio equipment, complemented by XLR and quarter-inch connections for straightforward integration into existing setups.
