Established in 1962, Marshall Amplification began after Jim Marshall heard guitarists in his shop discussing the qualities they were looking for in an amplifier, qualities that they couldn't find elsewhere at that time.

He made the decision to start building his own amps as a cheaper alternative to the American-made amps he was stocking at the time, and the seminal JTM45 was born.
